Why Getting Out with Your Baby Is Good for Their Health—and Yours (And Why Our Weekly Stroller Walks Are the Perfect Place to Start)

By Stuart Childress, the Heybrook

If you’ve ever Googled “things to do with a baby near me” or wondered how to meet other parents in your area, you’re not alone. In the early days of parenthood, even a quick trip out of the house can feel overwhelming. But whether you’re looking for mommy and me classes, fresh air, or just a little structure to your day, getting outside with your baby is one of the best things you can do—for both of you.

That’s why we host weekly Stroller Walks at The Heybrook—a friendly, and no-pressure way to connect with other caregivers, support your baby’s development, and get a mental health boost in the process.

Here’s why it matters:

1. Walking Helps Your Baby’s Brain and Body Develop

Getting outside isn’t just good for you—it’s developmentally important for your baby, too. Exposure to natural light, movement, and new sensory experiences helps support brain growth and healthy sleep patterns.
Babies who spend time outdoors often sleep better, cry less, and show increased alertness during wake windows. Bonus: it’s free and easy to do, especially when you have a reason and a group to go with.

2. You’ll Feel Better Mentally and Physically

Exercise doesn’t have to mean a gym or a 5am spin class. A casual stroller walk can lower stress, improve your mood, and provide much-needed postpartum support.
It’s one of the easiest ways to gently reintroduce movement after birth—whether you had a vaginal delivery or C-section. Just as important, it’s a chance to get out of the house, break up the day, and remind yourself you’re not alone.

3. Create Routine Without the Stress

In those early weeks and months, it’s hard to build structure into your day. Our weekly stroller walks offer a low-key reason to get out, without adding pressure. Even if your baby cries, naps mid-walk, or needs to feed along the way—it’s okay. Our community gets it, and everyone is welcome to show up however they are.

4. Meet Other Parents (and Actually Talk to Adults)

Making mom friends or connecting with other caregivers can be tough—but it’s also essential. Parenting wasn’t meant to be done in isolation. Our stroller walks are a relaxed, easy way to find your people—without awkward icebreakers or the pressure of a formal class. Many of our walkers go on to attend our mommy and me classes and other events together, forming lasting friendships in the process.

5. Don’t Worry If Your Baby Cries or You Forget Something—We’ve Got You

Let’s be real: the biggest reason many parents stay home is the fear of not having what they need—or that their baby might melt down. At The Heybrook, our stroller walks begin and end at our parent-friendly space with free coffee and tea, changing tables, feeding spots, and a clean, welcoming lounge. Need to nurse mid-walk? Need wipes? Forgot your water? You’ll be supported. We’re proud to be the best place to parent in public—and we mean it.
